At babyfaceplace.com, I design contemporary baby portraits for today’s stylish interiors.

As an alternative to heavy oil portraiture, I create a modern classic using the highest quality archival materials at a reasonable price. With signature tondo format and delicate palette, my portraits are a study in elegance and whimsy, the translation of a traditional idea into a pop art heirloom for modern walls.

Be it from friends or family, a babyface portrait is also an inspired, sophisticated gift, one that conveys impeccable taste and true creativity.

Prices start at $1000.

A painted portrait is the perfect accessory for today's nursery and is a clever way to capture the earliest display of your child's personality. More than a decorative keepsake, it is a personalized investment to preserve and pass down through the family.

By giving their portrait pride of place in the nursery, you invest your family with a sense of its own history and reinforce your child's sense of self in the post-modern home.

WHO

After establishing a track record with several galleries of note in New York, I broke with the contemporary art scene in favor of establishing a small painting studio nestled at the base of the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn.

I focused my studio practice solely on portraiture and my first private commissions started in 2001. As interest grew, I decided to introduce my work to discerning parents and gift-givers via babyfaceplace.com.

WHAT

Babyface portraits are painstakingly designed works of art, constructed from the highest quality archival materials and offered at a very reasonable price. Eschewing the cliché of heavy oil portraiture, I have designed a modern classic in the finest hand-ground pigments, custom acrylics and Belgian linen. With signature tondo format and pastry-icing colors, the portraits are a study in elegance and whimsy, a translation of a traditional idea into a pop art heirloom for modern walls.

The face is the focus of the work and reflects my fascination with the early manifestation of a strong personality; serious, funny and innocent by turn. I prefer to depict your baby rather than cutesy or sentimental stereotypes.

As a habitué of both the flea market and the contemporary art scene, I draw on these experiences to create a simple but sophisticated aesthetic. The work displays a pop sensibility while the materials, richly textured linen and paint-scumbled edges, maintain a chic authenticity and thus it coordinates well with both modern and vintage design schemes.

HOW AND HOW MUCH

Because clients can buy directly from the studio, the price remains affordable for an exceptionally high quality work of art.

Sizes and prices:

16 inches... 1000.

20 inches... 1400.

I prefer to work directly with clients via the website and referrals, thus bypassing the gallery system and allowing quick turn around of the commission, direct communication between client and artist, a transparent pricing structure, and greater overall client satisfaction.

The commission process is as follows:

Due to the high wiggle-factor associated with children (and a few parents, to be sure), I paint from photographs only. Photos are taken and chosen by the client or in collaboration with the artist if local to NYC.

Once I receive an image, a small colored pencil study of the portrait is submitted to the client for approval within the first week.

Within the 2 weeks following approval of the study, the completed portrait is submitted for approval in detailed jpeg images via email or presented during a studio visit if the client is in New York and wishes to sign-off in person.

Upon approval, the portrait is then gift-wrapped and shipped to the client.
